Demographic Profile of Tabernacle Baptist Church

As a part of Tabernacle's search for our next pastor, we understood the importance of being able to accurately inform prospective pastors of who Tabernacle is as a church. We conducted a take home survey for all attendees, both members and non-members, to gain a better understanding of who we are, what we do, and where we live.

Tabernacle is a predominantly Caucasian church with less than 6% of other races regularly attending. Seventy-five percent (75%) of our members are age 50+ which contributes to the fact that over 40% of our congregation is retired. Just over half of our adult members are married with approximately one-fourth classifying themselves as single (non-widowed and non-divorced). The vast marjority of our church has completed high school with just over half having a college education or more.

Approximately half of those surveyed have been members for over thirty years, while 80% have been members for ten or more years. Roughly 10% of those surveyed have been members five years or less. Eighty percent (80%) of our attendees state they have been a Christian for over 30 years, while we have no one stating they have become a Christian in the past 2 years.

Our largest attended services are Sunday Morning worship followed closely by Sunday School. Evening worship (Sunday) and Wednesday night prayer meeting trail by about half in attendance compared to the Sunday morning service.

The vast majority of our members live in single-family homes via either rent or ownership while a few responding to the survey reside in assisted living facilities. Around half have resided at the same address for 30 years or more while a large majority have resided at their current residence for 10 years or more. Nearly 80% of attendees live within 5 miles of the church, while we have no regular attendees residing greater than 20 miles from the church.
